Right to education is one of the basic rights that should be given to all the citizens of the country. After independence, a lot of efforts have been made by the government of the country to educate the people. Earlier the literacy rate in the country was very low. It was around five to ten percent. To increase the literacy rate in the country, the government has taken a lot steps and has recommended many reforms.

To spread education, the government has opened many schools across the country at a stretch. The schools provide free of cost education. Free Education is provided to ensure that people come to the school and get educated. The government has also asked big industrial firms and rich people to open schools at the same time to help in educating the people. After many efforts put by the Government and the nonprofit organizations, the literacy rate in the country is around sixty five percent.

The country has to go a long way to ensure that the education in the country is cent-percent. In the different states of India, there is too much disparity in the literacy rate. The government has to take steps to remove the disparity in terms of education in the various states of the country. Kid’s education must be free in all states.


The literacy rate can be increased by opening nursery schools across the country to provide elementary education to small children. It is a general trend that the public schools provide free of cost education to the students but later on they charge a nominal account. To decrease the disparity, the Government has to start providing free of cost education in most of the states. Every child between the ages of 6 to 14 years has the right to free and compulsory education.

This is stated as per the 86th Constitution Amendment Act added Article 21A. The right to education bill seeks to give effect to this amendment. Education must be made free. The government schools shall provide free education to all the children and the schools will be managed by school management committees (SMC). The private schools can also contribute to this by admitting at least 25% of the children in their schools without any fee.
